Below are excerpts of lyrics to a beautiful song that has been touching my heart recently. I love the sentiment of it.... (Josh Groban sings it.)
Some days, we forget to look around us,
Some days, we can't see the joy that surrounds us,...
so for tonight we pray for,
what we know can be,
and on this day we hope for,
what we still can't see,
what we still can't see,
even with our differences,
there is a place we're all connected,
each of us can find each other's light,
there is a place we're all connected,
each of us can find each other's light,
It's up to us, to be the change,
and even though we all can still do more,
there's so much to be thankful for....
there's so much to be thankful for....
Some "Facebook" friends alerted me around Thanksgiving to "look around" and recognize the blessings already present, and to be on the "look-out" for those I yet cannot see... and I realized how blessed we are. But also, I was alerted to the fact of how much more grateful I could be.
I am grateful to God for the "reason for the season," the celebration of the Christ-child, bringing hope and salvation to all of humanity. We can look to Jesus' relationship to God -- "this is my beloved son, in whom I am well pleased," -- and see the model of our own true relationship to God -- beloved, cherished, made to manifest the glory of God!
I love that idea from the song that it IS up to us "to be the change....." that we don't have to wait for someone else to move or change the world. We, right here, right now, are pioneers, witnesses in this world of Love, God, discovering more and more of God's nature and creation, including ourselves. Mary Baker Eddy writes in Science and Health , with Key to the Scriptures, "Eternal Truth is changing the universe." (S&H 255:1) A friend of mine recently said to me that the real "change-agent" is us witnessing the ever-appearing Christ all around us.
And how do we do this? How do we see reality and "...find each other's light..." By exercising our spiritual senses. Mrs. Eddy writes, "Material sense does not unfold the facts of existence; but spiritual sense lifts human consciousness into eternal Truth." (S&H 95:30-32) And then, " Spiritual sense is the discernment of spiritual good. Understanding is the line of demarcation between the real and the unreal." (505:20-28)
Each one of us is needed to do our part in this work, this love, this exercising of God's ever-present goodness. No matter what we're doing, no matter where we are, we always have the opportunity to witness the goodness of God, and witness that "light" in each other. And as the song says, "we all can still do more" for the whole world. What may seem to be small acts of kindness, love, patience, hope, and expectant prayer, does much for the world.
I hope this finds you happy and healthy. I hope you make time, pause, and focus on being grateful for all the good surrounding you. I've found it does wonders for your attitude.
At Christmas time, and always, may you feel the love of God surround and permeate you whether you're with a crowd of family and friends, or alone with God in the quiet. May God bless you with peace, joy, health, happiness and prosperity. May God bless you in all your moments, your days, your relationships, your very lives! Have a wonderful new year! And keep your eyes open for GOOD!
